The Grand Junction Police Department S.W.A.T. team spent 4 hours talking a man out of a local motel room before arresting him, Friday. They went to the Motel 6 on Horizon Drive after receiving information from the Garfield County Sheriff's office that a man wanted in Texas may be in the Grand Valley.
The officers found evidence that William Allen Zolnay was in a room at the motel. At approximately 6:30 AM, officers tried to make contact with Zolnay, who refused to leave the room. S.W.A.T. team members gathered on the second floor near the man's room.
About 2 hours after the police began communicating with the suspect Joseph Reiner came from the room and was arrested. Zolnay finally gave up to police at 10:30 AM, four hours after the standoff began.
Zolnay is wanted in Texas on a felony probation warrant, but Grand Junction police officials had no additional information on the nature of his original offense Friday night.
They did say they have charged Zolnay and Reiner for theft by receiving after finding items stolen from a car at the Ramada Inn in Grand Junction. Both men have also been charged with a number of drug offenses.
