The Grand Junction Police Department has released the name of the suspect involved in a shooting Tuesday night in the 1200 block of Texas Avenue.
Twenty four year old Steven Velarde shot at his wife as she tried to escape him Tuesday night. Velarde had been drinking and got in a fight with his wife. As she attempted to leave the residence in her car, he came out and fired a shot into the air as she drove away.
Police could not lure Velarde out of the house so the swat team was called in to assist. No one was injured in the altercation and two children living in the house were returned to their mother. The suspect has been taken into custody.
Velarde was taken to the Mesa County Jail and booked on seven charges, including first degree assault and possession of marijuana.
