Colorado health officials have just completed work on a new emergency plan to fight the possibility of a world–wide outbreak of a flu that has no cure. The World Health Organization is calling “bird flu”, or Avian Influenza, the gravest possible danger in the world today.
The disease was formerly limited to birds, but a recent mutation of the flu has infected humans and killed at least 45 people in Southeast Asia. Officials worry the virus could cause a world–wide breakout of "bird flu." The Centers for Disease Control ordered states to begin planning for an outbreak.
Mesa County Health Department officials say they will be ready if the virus reaches the United States. A draft plan released to local health departments contains a checklist to ensure all plans are in place for a flu outbreak. They include ensuring the most current information to is made available to health professionals and the public.
