“No I didn't,” that was the answer given by James Anthony Duran when asked Friday if he shot Brad Hatch. Duran took the stand Friday as his trial continues at the Mesa County Justice Center. Duran is charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting Hatch and then placing on some railroad tracks on Orchard Mesa.
Duran was cross examined for 2 hours Friday afternoon. He had the chance to tell his story about what happened on December 22, 2003. He told the jury about a visit he made to the hospital to visit Hatch. He said he asked him if he was OK and visited with him for less than a minute before being apprehended by police.
The prosecution focused on the number of lies that Duran told police during their investigation. He admitted several times that he lied to investigators and testified that he lied because he was scared.
The trial now moves to final arguments and will continue on Monday.
