Figures for the Mesa County Workforce Center show January unemployment figures are well below what is expected for that time of the year. Center Administrator Scott Aker says the unemployment rate for January in mesa county was 5.5%, up just .20% from December.
That figure is well under the 1-1.5% increase seen in recent years. The lower jobless rate in Mesa County matches a trend being seen state–wide, with less than 5% of the state's workers unemployed.
The modest gain in jobs statewide follows a two–year rise in the number of people seeking work.
