Two people are dead and one is in critical condition following a late night car accident in Montrose County, Sunday night. The single–car crash happened east of Naturita at the junctions of Highways 141 and 145, shortly after midnight.
The car apparently fell into a canyon after plunging off the side of the road. The driver of the car, Jimmie Carter, 63, died after being ejected from the vehicle. His wife was taken to an area trauma center and remains in critical condition, Monday.
Janet Marie Somerlot, 54, was also killed after being ejected from the car. Her body was discovered hours later by rescue workers.
The cause of the accident was still unknown Monday night.
