Investigators working on the site of the Electric Mountain Lodge near Paonia announced Thursday that they have completed their on–site investigation. On Monday, remains were discovered on the site and the process of determining who the remains belong to has begun. Three children died in the blast.
Investigators say the that process is complicated and could take weeks or months and its possible they may never identify the whose remains they are. Investigators with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation say that this fire was one of the hottest they have ever seen. That heat, along with difficult weather conditions and the size of the remains, made this investigation very difficult.
Insurance investigators are now on the scene to determine the financial loss from the fire. The Delta County Sheriff's Office also wanted to thank everyone who helped with the investigation.
