A young Iowa woman is dead after a rollover accident on Interstate 70 Sunday night near Parachute. Just after midnight, a black Chevy Trailblazer heading east on I–70 crossed the median and rolled three times.
The two passengers, who were not wearing seatbelts, were ejected from the vehicle and taken to Saint Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction in a helicopter.
According to the Colorado State Patrol Sierra Mitchell, 17, died en–route to the hospital. A second passenger, 17–year–old Molly Raim was in critical condition, Monday. The driver, Tara Friedley, 18, was wearing a seatbelt. She had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Saint Mary's where she was in serious condition, Monday.
All three women are from Iowa. The state patrol says the driver likely swerved to miss a deer in the road. The accident closed down I–70 in both directions for about an hour.
