The Veterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Junction has a new program that benefits both pets and veterans. The program is called "Pets for Vets" and helps veterans who are interested in owning a pet get started. The program gives vets a voucher to purchase a cat or dog at any non–profit animal agency.
They also receive gift certificates to purchase food, toys, a leash, and food and water bowls. The program was started since it's proven that animals improve quality of life and started on January 21st.
To date, the program has adopted out seven pets and there are two more vouchers. The "Pets for Vets" program runs solely on donations.
