A man driving in the wrong lane on the I–70 Business Loop in Grand Junction slammed head–on into another car Tuesday, sending two people to the hospital. According to the Colorado State Patrol, Gregory Ruiz, 23 of Grand Junction, was heading east in the westbound lanes on the business loop around 2:30 AM.
Ruiz's vehicle reportedly collided with an oncoming car. The unsuspecting driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts and their airbags deployed. They were treated and released, one with a broken arm, the other with a broken wrist.
Ruiz was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital with a cut on his head and was later released and taken to the Mesa County Jail. He faces four counts of vehicular assault, a drug charge, and driving under the influence.
The state patrol believes he hit the other car intentionally, possibly in an attempt to harm himself.
