A Grand Junction man threatened his family Wednesday night and then barricaded himself in a house for nearly three hours. Hostage negotiators managed to coax the man, who police had not identified late Wednesday, out of his house and in to the custody of the Grand Junction Police Department.
The three hour standoff in the 400 block of west Colorado Avenue in the Riverside Township started when a man in his 30's threatened his grandmother with a knife. The suspect lived with hs grandmother and sisters.
The family was able to escape the residence, but the suspect stayed barricaded in his house for another 2 hours. SWAT teams were on hand, as well as hostage negotiators. The suspect's family members did indicate that drugs and alcohol may have been a factor in this incident.
Police were unsure if the man was in possession of any weapons. The stand–off ended successfully with no injuries. The suspect will be charged with felony menacing for threatening his grandmother. An investigation continues.
