Tuesday in Washington D.C., U.S. Senator Ken Salazar discussed oil shale development in Western Colorado with the senate energy committee. Senator Salazar is optimistic about the potential, especially on the Western Slope, which is home to some of the highest quality oil shale deposits in the world.
Several officials from Colorado attended the hearing and shared their experiences and concerns about oil shale development. Senator Salazar said that oil shale development is only part of the larger picture of an energy strategy.
He said any development in Western Colorado, including the Roan Plateau in Garfield County, should be conducted in an open and cautious manner that includes the local communities.
