Fire Sends Woman To The Hospital, Causes $50,000 Damage

A Grand Junction woman is hospitalized after the home she was in caught fire Friday night. Witnesses in the neighborhood tell 11 News a man leaving the home told neighbors to ignore the fire and that the situation was under control.

The neighbors called 911 and the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to the scene. Four units and 18 fire personnel responded to the address and discovered a significant blaze on the first floor of the home. They found the victim outside the house and were able to move her quickly out of the fire. She was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and was transported to St. Mary's Hospital.

The loss of the fire is estimated to be $50,000. Witnesses in the neighborhood saw the victim of the fire moving as she was taken from the scene by ambulance and she is believed to be okay. The fire's cause is under investigation.
