Plans for several new developments in Fruita are moving forward. Kokopelli Square is the future home to several new business including eateries and real estate companies, as well as a bowling alley, movie theater and Gene Taylor's outlet store.
A new strip mall is also planned for U.S. Highway 6&50, east of Fruita Monument High School. New schools are also planned, with a middle school slated for construction near the high school tennis courts. J and 6/10 road east of 18 Road will be re-named as an extension of Aspen Avenue and be home to a new elementary school.
City engineer Eric Mende says the new commercial construction will provide new shopping opportunities as well as an asset for taxpayers.
Other engineering projects at or near completion include an extension of utility connections to the Greenbelt Industrial Park west of town, a new stop light at 19 Road and Highway 6&50 and completion of other highway and landscaping work on that highway.
