Tom Chinn, who is currently Commander for the Montrose Police Department, will be the department's new Chief of Police. He was recommended by City Manager John Schneiger and Friday morning the city council accepted the recommendation.
Officials say the City of Montrose went through an extensive search and found chinn was the best person for the job. They say his 32 years of experience with the department and knowledge of the city will make for a smooth transition.
Commander Chinn will be replacing Chief Gary Mecham, who is retiring in May. Chinn will take over his new position in June.
