Following months of construction a long–time complaint of visitors to St. Mary's Hospital was finally solved Friday, with the dedication of its' new parking garage. The three–level structure is just south of the hospital and provides 424 free parking spaces.
Building the parking garage required some innovative thinking, as a major structure had to be squeezed into existing space, while still allowing for further hospital expansion as well as flight space for the Care Flight helicopter.
The project required 11 months to complete and cost $8.2 million. It also used 24 million pounds of reinforced concrete and more than a million tons of reinforcing steel.
