The Glenn Torres murder-rape trial continued, Monday. A key prosecution eyewitness in connection with the murder of Paula Moore, 19, in 1992 took the stand. Shari Winn, the wife of the defendant at the time of the murder, testified that the victim was friends with Torres and even lived with Winn and Torres for two months prior to the murder.
Winn testified that Torres owed Moore's boyfriend money. Moore went to the Torres household the day she was murdered to get that money from Torres. When Shari Winn saw Moore's car in the driveway, she went looking for moore to say hello.
She said when she entered the garage, she saw Torres raping Moore, and then witnessed him strangle her. Fearing for her life, Winn tried to stop Torres, but was helpless. Winn also testified that she witnessed Torres wipe Moore's car clean of fingerprints.
According to Winn, later that night Torres and a friend hauled away a couch and a piece of carpet from the garage that the murder allegedly took place in.
The defense tried to discredit Winn's story, saying she has changed her story over time and that she was on drugs at the time of the incident. Winn was married to Torres for three years and they have two children together.
Testimony continues Tuesday at the Mesa County Courthouse.
