United States Congressman John Salazar, (D) Colorado, is going to the Middle East for a historic visit. Salazar is participating in the first congressional visit to Iraq since the formation of a new government there. While in Iraq, the congressman will meet with troops to discuss and determine what kind of progress has been made to stop insurgent attacks.
The congressional group will also meet with members of the Iraqi Assembly to discuss strategy on creating a stable government. However, Salazar says the most significant part of the trip will be visiting with troops from Colorado, along with delivering special messages from home.
The congressman adds he was amazed and encouraged at the number of letters that were written and collected in just 24 hours to take to Iraq, including several from the Grand Valley.
