It was a great day at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction, Tuesday, as more than 200 Special Olympians from Mesa County gathered to compete in several track and field events. The athletes, from 21 schools and ranging from ages 7–to–21, get to show their skills and to compete.
Events are organized in a way so athletes at similar skill levels are competing against each other, however organizers say the goal of the day is to have fun.
This is the seventh year of the Mesa County School District 51 Special Olympics Meet, and depending on Tuesday's results, some athletes may have the opportunity to go onto the regional and national Special Olympics.
