Torres Found Guilty Of 1992 Murder, Rape Of Woman

Glenn Torres has been found guilty on all counts of the murder and rape of Paula Moore, 19 of Grand Junction, in 1992. He was then given a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The jury started deliberations Tuesday. A verdict was determined before noon on Wednesday.

The 7 woman, 5 man jury, found Torres guilty on all counts, 2nd degree murder, 1st degree sexual assault, and felony murder. While Torres was charged with murder in the 1st degree, Judge Amanda Bailey gave jurors the option of convicting him of the lesser crime.

Moore's family members shed tears while the verdict was read, as he sat rigidly as Moore's brother read a statement aloud in court. Despite the guilty verdict, the convicted killer's friends are still convinced of his innocence. According to torres' family, he will be filing an appeal.

There was no sentencing hearing for Torres. The felony murder conviction is an automatic life sentence, without the possiblity of parole.

Prosecutors added that technological advances in D.N.A. evidence also played a vital role in his conviction.
