Western Slope Red Cross Leader To Add National Responsibilities

A key member of the Western Slope office of the American Red Cross is taking on more responsibility, as he accepts a position as a national emergency response coordinator. John Bear has been a regional coordinator for the Red Cross, ensuring that needs are met for those caught in emergency situations.

Bear has worked with the American Red Cross for years, and has coordinated the organization's response to a number of regional disasters, including the 2002 Coal Seam Fire in Glenwood Springs, and the McGruder Fire in Cedaredge, last year.

As a national emergency response coordinator, he will take on the responsibility of bringing the aid of the Red Cross to nationally–significant disasters, such as last year's hurricanes in Florida. Bear has already been to Washington D.C. for one training class and more are scheduled.

Bear will remain in Grand Junction, but be on–call as needed for national duties.
