A series of Western Colorado meetings will allow the Division of Wildlife to explain a proposal to list the Gunnison Sage Grouse as an endangered species, and how land owners may voluntarily join a habitat protection program.
The Gunnison Sage Grouse is being threatened by a loss of habitat and is a candidate for the Endangered Species List. That listing could limit development and ranching in affected areas. At the meetings the D.O.W. will explain a voluntary habitat protection program called the Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances, or C.C.A.A.
Meetings on the Sage Grouse are scheduled locally for Wednesday in Hotchkiss at Memorial Mall at 7:00 PM. There will be on at 6:00 PM, Thursday on Glade Park at the community center, and May 31st, at the Holiday Inn Express in Montrose. That meeting is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
