At least two people are dead after a truck is hit by a train at a crossing in Palisade. The accident happened in the 4 o'clock hour. Two more people were taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. Their conditions were unknown early this evening. The four people were oil field workers.
The truck they were in collided with a fully loaded coal train at the 3888 G & 7/10 Road crossing in Palisade. On impact, the crash took the life of the driver and the front seat passenger. The two men in the back seat were transported to Saint Mary's Hospital with serious injures.
Residents living in the area say the train was honking its horn loudly, and it appeared that the driver of the truck simply just didn't see or hear the train. Investigators are trying to figure out how the truck ended up on the tracks.
