Visitors to the Glenwood Springs Adventure Park above the city are having a screaming good time this summer, as several new rides opened Friday, including the country's first Alpine Coaster. The new ride is an import from Europe, where the gravity–powered rides are popular.
The coasters can hit speeds of up to 35 miles per hour, meaning riders get a big thrill. In addition to the Alpine Coaster,
there is another ride that is sure to raise your heartbeat. The Swing Shot sends those who don't mind heights soaring on a big swing 1,300 feet over the Colorado River.
Jeanne Beckley owns the Adventure Park with her husband. She says a lot of effort went into finding rides that would fit the mountaintop park without impacting views from the city.
In addition, the popular Glenwood Caverns are also open.
