Fruita Police Putting Brakes On Area Drivers

The fastest growing city in the Grand Valley is seeing an increase in traffic, now Fruita police officers are beginning to crack down on careless drivers. Officers say drivers are often in a hurry to get to work, or home from their jobs in other parts of the valley.

In a rush they sometimes speed or run stop signs. Using input from citizens to locate areas in need of more enforcement, the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, or "STEP", is intended to reduce violations.

Areas to see extra patrols will be announced in the Fruita Times newspaper every week. "STEP" will continue for the foreseeable future.

If you know of an area of Fruita that is having problems with speeding or reckless driving, you are asked to call the Fruita Police Department at 858–3008.
