The Grand Junction Police Department K–9 unit will soon have an addition, thanks in part to a large corporate donation made Wednesday. City Market and Milk–Bone has given the city $5,000 to support the addition of one more K–9 for police use.
Following the check presentation, K-9 officer Deanie Earthman and her partner Titan gave those in attendance a small demonstration, showing off just a few of the things a K–9 can do. Currently, the department has two dogs and Earthman says K–9's add a dimension to police work that only a dog can provide.
In May of 2004, K–9 Gero was killed while officers were trying to apprehend one of Grand Junction's most wanted suspects, bringing on the need for another K-9.
