New Fruita Trail Has Nature Lovers Smiling

Walkers, hikers, bicyclists, and nature–lovers in Fruita will soon have more places to do that thanks to a $119,000 grant from the Colorado State Trails Program. The Big Salt Wash Urban Trail is already a favorite with Fruita residents who like to get out and enjoy mother nature.

The grant will permit the construction of approximately 1/2 mile of new 8–foot–wide concrete trail running from the Comstock Subdivision to Ottley Avenue. The city's development director says the Big Salt Wash Trail offers users some unique opportunities.

The big salt wash trail is part of the Colorado Riverfront Project, which when completed, will be a system of about 50 miles of trails along the Colorado River in the Grand Valley.

Eventually the Big Salt Wash Trail will also take people to the popular mountain bike area at the foot of the Bookcliffs north of Fruita.
