Grand Junction-Mesa County Commissioners grant backers of Palisade's Whitewater Park an important permit Tuesday. During a public hearing, Whitewater Park representatives discussed the nine conditions set forth by commissioners, which include an emergency management plan for the site.
The board granted the conditional use permit by a unanimous vote, and also cited the large amount of support, ranging from state to government agencies. While there are several issues still to be resolved, project supporters say they can now see a light at the end of the tunnel.
The Whitewater Park Committee will hold its next meeting with commissioners once the master site plan is finalized. Construction is slated to start in 2006, with the park opening by the summer of 2007.
