Western Slope's Newest Americans Sworn In As U.S. Citizens

Grand Junction-After going through many interviews and tests, the Western Slope's newest Americans take the final step torwards citizenship, Tuesday.

Nearly two dozen immigrants representing 11 countries, from Australia to Great Britain, took the oath making them official United States citizens.

Along with receiving some encouraging words, immigrants and those in attendance, enjoyed several patriotic musical numbers. It was no accident that the ceremony coincided with Flag Day, and Tuesday's activities were important for immigrants of the present, as well as the past.

Nearly 3,000 immigrants across the country are granted citizenship each day.

The next immigration ceremony in the Grand Valley will be in about three months.
