Grand Junction-A chemical spill shuts down a business and temporarily closes two streets in the industrial area of south Grand Junction, Tuesday morning. The Grand Junction Fire Department's Hazardous Materials Team was called to Luxury Wheels just after 9:00 a. m. following the spill of an unknown corrosive chemical.
Employees were evacuated from the building and nearby streets were closed so the fire department's hazmat team could work safely. Two firefighters donned protective suits and entered the building as others stood outside in case they were needed.
Grand Junction Fire Department Spokesperson Mike Page said safety crews take chemical spills seriously no matter how large or small.
It took the hazmat team about 90 minutes to determine the extent and seriousness of the spill. The area was re–opened to normal business later in the morning.
