A Marine from Montrose was killed while fighting in Iraq, Wednesday. The man who recruited him says he was a model citizen and a model son. Lance Corporal Chad Maynard, 19 of Montrose, died while conducting combat operations near Ar Ramadi, Iraq. He was killed when his vehicle hit an explosive devise while conducting combat operations.
Friday, 11 News spoke with the man who recruited him, Staff Seargant Charles White said Maynard was a young man who always knew he wanted to be a Marine, and that you couldn't ask for a better, more polite young man, and that he was an even better Marine.
Maynard was assigned to the First Battalion based out of Camp Pendleton, California. A 2003 graduate of Montrose High School, he was described as a natural leader, who followed his brother into the marine corps.
His parents now live in Arizona. They were notified this week about their son's death.
