The Denver Post Ride The Rockies bike tour officially kicked off in Grand Junction Sunday morning. More than two thousand cyclists climbed the steep canyons of the Colorado National Monument. The first leg of the 405 mile trek from Grand Junction to Breckenridge went off without a hitch. The first ever Ride The Rockies took place in Grand Junction 20 years ago, but this is the first time the tour has included a loop of the National Monument. The ride today was 45 miles, Monday's leg is 91 miles over the Grand Mesa to Delta. Cyclists particpating in this year's Ride The Rockies come from 48 different states and 8 countries and riders range in age from 10 to 79 years old.
