Largest Art Department Endowment Now Available For Mesa State Students

Grand Junction-Some people find their calling later in life, as in the case of the late Suzie Boyd, who discovered painting at the age of 40. That love of art has caused her family to create the Suzie Boyd Endowment for the Mesa State College Art Department.

Monday, familily members joined faculty, staff, and students to name the main studio in honor of the prolific artist, who produced more than 300 paintings in a too short career. The Suzie Boyd Endowment will allow promising students in the art program to finish their education.

Samantha McGuire is the first recipient of the new endowment. McGuire is working on a double major as a studio artist, as well as getting a degree in commercial art.

At the family's request the amount of the endowment is secret, but Mesa State College Administrators say it is the largest endowment the art department has ever received.
