Rockslide Closes U.S. Highway 6 Near Golden

Golden (AP) A 200-ton rock slide spilled onto a mountain highway near Golden this afternoon, injuring a truck driver and closing the roadway. All lanes of U.S. 6 were shut down through Clear Creek Canyon after about 200 tons of rock slid onto the highway about ten miles west of Golden.

Colorado Department of Transportation Spokesman Gene Town says two tractor-trailers were involved in the slide. One of the drivers was injured but his condition wasn't immediately available.

Town says the debris spans 150 feet on the highway and could be up to 30 feet high. Heavy equipment is working to clear to highway, but Town says the highway could remain closed until Wednesday.

The slide was reported around 11:30 Tuesday morning. Motorists are being diverted to Interstate 70.
