Plateau Valley School District 50 broke ground, Thursday, on a $4.5 million dollar multipurpose facility. The more than 25,000 square foot addition to the Plateau Valley School Building will include an auditorium with a balcony and 200 seats.
There will also be a full size gymnasium with retractable seating for 600 people, locker rooms, restrooms, and a weight room.
According to Superintendent Greg Randall, the school has five basketball teams trying to practice in one gym. In order to practice, times range anywhere from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. When there's a drama production, basketball practice is cancelled all together.
Randall says the new facility will make it so students can have a more regular practice schedule.
This is the first school bond issue passed since the construction of the Plateau Valley School Building in 1958.
