Boy Scout Dies In Tragic Rafting Accident

Farmington, N.M.-A boy scout is dead in what one onlooker called "a tragic freak accident" near Flora Vista on the Animas River in northern New Mexico, Thursday. Rescue crews say 15-year-old Chase Hathenbruck of Farmington and several others were on a raft floating down the river near Farmington when the raft turned sideways.

His body was found five miles away after a two-hour search. State police and Boy Scout officials say the boy was wearing a life vest but the current pulled it off.

Three other Scouts and an adult were found caught in a nearby dam. They were treated and released at an area hospital.
