Gateway-Phase I of one of the biggest deveopment projects in Mesa County is unveiled to the public Friday, as Gateway Canyons Resort opened its doors. The project is bankrolled by Discovery Channel founder and part–time Gateway resident John Hendricks.
The resort includes a 16 room motel, an outdoor shop, and a grocery store. The Paradox Grille opens next week. Developers for the multi–million dollar project worked closely with residents to plan the resort and infrastructure and hope the new jobs will revitalize the old mining town of Gateway.
Tests on a new wastewater treatment plant were completed earlier this week and the plant turned over to the county.
Some residents of Gateway say they have mixed feelings about the resort, but all agree that it's nice to be able to buy gasoline without driving 50 miles or more to Grand Junction or Nucla.
