Western Slope D.U.I. Numbers Low For 4th Of July Holiday Weekend

Law enforcement agencies across the state are wrapping up a busy Fourth of July Weekend of trying to keep drunk drivers off the road. Even with gas prices at $2.26 a gallon for regular unleaded, many expected this holiday weekend to be very busy
and law enforcement was ready for any problems that could arise on the roads. For the most part travel on the Western Slope was pretty safe compared to other areas.

On Friday and Saturday statewide, the Colorado State Patrol reported 94 D.U.I. arrests. The numbers for July 4th were not available Tuesday, however, locally the state patrol only had D.U.I. two cases, one resulting in an accident, the other did not.

The Grand Junction Police Department numbers for D.U.I. arrests were low. Only 3 arrests were made for D.U.I.'s, which is on average with a typical weekend here. For the whole weekend only 5 drivers were booked for D.U.I.'s.

State troopers did pull over 266 motorists for a variety of reasons. 93 were cited for speeding and 21 people received tickets for not wearing their seatbelts.

There were no fatal accidents on the Western Slope this holiday weekend. The Colorado State Patrol assisted 33 motorist traveling through the area this Fourth of July Weekend.
