Delta-Delta City Council members may have voted against a new youth sports complex Thursday night, but that doesn't mean the city will never get the facility. Council member Mary Cooper voted against the complex, saying Delta can not handle the maintainance and financial responsibilities of a youth sports complex.
She adds that the $800,000 dollar grant from Greater Outdoors Colorads had a lot of strings attached, such as specifics on when and how things would be constructed. Despite the decision, Cooper says she and the city recognize a need for a youth sports complex in Delta.
The city will give back the grant money to GOCO, and Cooper says they will try to eventually get some of the money back to build a scaled down complex.
The city is also looking at Confluence Park as a possible site.
City Council member's will meet again in two weeks to discuss the future of the park.
