Retail Business In Ski Areas, Vail Set Records

Vail (AP) A strong ski season boosted retail sales in Colorado's three biggest ski counties. It even set a record in Vail. Ski resorts in Colorado reported 11.8 million skier visits this season, a 5% increase, while visits by higher spending international tourists were up 28%.

The Town of Vail collected a record $11.3 million dollars from its 4% sales tax on sales of $282 million dollars during the six–month–long ski season. That's up 6% from the previous year and breaks the record of the 2000–2001 season.

Breckenridge had a record number of skiers this season. The city is reporting a 10% increase in sales from last year for the first three months of the year.

In Aspen, sales through the first five months of the year were up 7.5% from last year.
