Colorado Wildfire Forces Evacuations In Rural Areas

Wetmore (AP) A fire official is estimating that a wildfire in rural southern Colorado has grown to at more than 1,000 acres. That's according to Fire Information Officer Steve Segin, although no official estimate is available yet.

The fire has forced evacuations from more than three dozen homes and sent black smoke pouring into the sky as temperatures climbed Friday to nearly 100 degrees amid gusty winds.

Some residents stayed to watch the smoke billow from a nearby hillside. Others left sprinklers going on their roofs and fire crews were stationed through the Greenwood Community 25 miles west of Pueblo.

No homes had burned by late afternoon and no injuries were
reported, however, Forest Service worker Larry Klock says he and another person put out flames around a barn at Hamilton Ranch.
