Children playing with a cigarette lighter set cheatgrass on fire Thursday night, destroying a mobile home and some outbuildings near Whitewater. The fire completely destroyed a mobile home, its contents and a garage.
Volunteers with the Land's End Fire Department responded to the scene near Seminole Road with a crew from the Bureau of Land Management. Firefighters had difficulty accessing the area, which lies in a remote spot by a narrow road winding through a canyon bottom.
It took firefighters about an hour to control the fire.
The Red Cross was on hand to provide assistance to the displaced family.
