Two young men rode into Montrose Monday on a coast–to–coast bicycle trip to raise awareness and funding for pancreatic cancer research. Minnesota half–brothers David and Dan Breitenbucher stopped in Montrose for the night.
They lost their mother to pancratic cancer after a seven–month battle. The two found that pancreatic cancer is the fourth–leading cancer cause of death in the country, but receives little notice or research.
In memory of their mother, the pair decided to do a fund–raising bicyle trip from San Francisco to Yorktown, Virginia.
They say heat has been the toughest part of the ride so far, but the kindness and generosity of strangers and their willingness to donate has been the highlight of the trip.
So far, the two have raised nearly $20,000 in donations for pancreatic cancer research.
