After an oil–tanker rollsover Monday in Silt, crews were still trying to clean up the hundreds of gallons of oil which spilled on Tuesday. According to the Colorado State Patrol Hazardous Materials Unit, about 85 barrels, which individually carry 42 gallons of oil, were spilled when the driver of truck tried to over–correct a turn on County Road 331 in Silt.
While the driver was not injured in the accident, hazardous materials crews were containing the spill, as well as taking soil samples to see if any environmental damage has been done.
Traffic was reopened on the roadway and a nearby family who was evacuated Monday has been allowed to return home. Officials say the cleanup should by complete in the next couple of days.
