Aspen Teenager Sentenced To 14 Years For Beating

An Aspen teenager who pleaded guilty in connection with the beating of a runaway girl last fall on Independence Pass has been sentenced to 14 years in prison. Jaime Castro was 17-years-old when he pleaded guilty in the beating of a 16–year–old California girl.

Castro became romantically involved with co–defendant Cynthia Romero, who has yet to be tried in the case. Castro and Romero beat the girl after she got in the way of the romance. The victim managed to get away and flag down a passing motorist.

Castro was tried as an adult. He has no previous criminal record and could be released from prison within five years if he can successfully complete a youth offender program in Pueblo.
