A former Homefront Heroes board member says money was misused, forcing her to resign from her position. Homefront Heroes President Phyllis Derby says there has never been any misuse of funds to her knowledge. A total of nine former board members have resigned since November of 2004, and all are making the same accusations regarding the misuse of funds within the organization.
The board member, "Danielle", who did not want her last name used for this story, served as a Homefront Heroes board member from March of 2003 until November of 2004, when she decided to sever all ties with the organization.
Derby says she's not concerned about the allegations.
She also says she has orderd an audit, which an accountant in Fort Collins is conducting, and has no problem releasing the findings once they're available. She adds then the truth will come out.
Derby says to her knowledge no money is missing, and says she has made decisions without the board's approval for the good of the troops and their families.
Former board members are planning to meet with the Grand Junction Police Department Thursday morning to discuss the recent allegations.
