Cost Of Mason Gulch Fire Almost $4 Million; Evacuees Return Home
Florence (AP) There's more good news coming out of southern Colorado, where some 830 firefighters are still battling the 12,566 acre Mason Gulch Fire. All evacuations have been lifted, crews are getting the upper hand, and full containment is expected no later than Saturday night.
5,000 or so residents awoke in their own homes this morning for the first time in three days, after Pueblo County officials and fire managers reached a compromise yesterday.
Authorities allowed people to return home, saying a three–day
evacuation was long enough, but residents are being urged to remain alert.
Firefighting costs have reached $3.8 million dollars since Governor Owens declared a state of emergency on Sunday.
