Completion Of Rock Slide Cleanup Pushed Back

Golden (AP) State transportation officials say cleanup of the rock slide along U.S. 6 in Clear Creek Canyon won't be complete until mid–September. A massive rock slide closed the road last month, with transportation officials originally estimating that cleanup would only close the road for about a month, but there's more work than expected.

Crews have been working seven days a week to clear the road and remove about 1,500 cubic yards of rock from the original slide. They are also taking down parts of the cliff side that has the potential to slide.

Some of the work requires crews to build a temporary road to bring in equipment. Transportation officials estimate the cleanup project will cost $3 million dollars.
