Grand Junction Residents Give City Good Marks

Monday night the City of Grand Junction released its 2005 Citizen's Household Survey and the results show some positive trends and a few that may need some attention. The Citizen's Survey, which is done every two years, has some promising numbers in both fire protection and the overall happiness with the quality of life.

19,000 surveys were sent out in April and 4,400 citizens gave their opinions on the city and its services. Now, those numbers can be used to determine what needs to be fixed and what is succeeding within the city.

While the quality of life rating dropped slightly, 79% of people still feel it's good or excellent. While statistically there was a drop, but it was only a one percent difference and only 2.9% of people rated the quality of life as poor or below average.

Marketing Consultant, Dr. Jerry Mormon presented the survey sults to the city council. Besides rating the quality of life, the survey also looked at several city services. Trash collection is the city service that got the highest approval rating, while weed control had the lowest.

There were some trends over the last six years. Fire protection and recreational activites were on an upward trend, while traffic control, street maintenance, and crime prevention are on a downward spiral. The citizens gave city services an above average rating overall. People living Fruitvale gave city services the lowest rating of all the people who took the survey.

The outcome of the 2005 study was compared to the results from the 2001 and 2003 household surveys.
