Coalition Files Motion Supporting New State Rules On Water Runoff

Glenwood Springs (AP) Western Colorado residents and
environmentalists have filed a motion Tuesday in Denver district court supporting a state agency's regulation of storm runoff from oil and gas wells. The motion follows a lawsuit by industry groups opposed to the new rules by the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission.

The rules require a permit and a water runoff management plan for small construction sites up to five acres and includes oil and gas wells. The Colorado Oil and Gas Association and the Colorado Petroleum Association claim in their lawsuit filed in June that the regulations violate state laws.

A coalition of environmental and community groups counter that the rules are needed to protect water quality.
